Why the name First Church Bellevue?

Our name is not necessarily that we were the first historic church in Bellevue. Actually, First Church was founded in 1839, before Bellevue was incorporated as a city!

Our name is meant to show that we are all about seeking first the Kingdom of God. We seek first the Kingdom by giving primary allegiance to Jesus.

This happens as we join together as a community in a variety of ways. Yes, seeking God may start as we gather for worship, but seeking God is to continue as we leave worship following Jesus in every aspect of our lives.

Who are we as a church community?

We are a church that passionately desires to live in alignment with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our personal and public lives. We are excited about and focused at being a local church in Bellevue, for Bellevue! Our faithful church family and worship community intends to enhance our local community of Bellevue through walking in the ways of Jesus everywhere we are. That said, we are one local church of many, and we join together with the Global Church to move the Gospel from Bellevue to the world: local to national to international mission.

What does our icon mean?
Traditional & Contemporary

We are a community that is both traditional and contemporary. We sing from hymnals and we sing with modern music. We practice ancient spiritual disciplines and we seek to move into our world with creative mission. We love seeing 73, 37, and 7 year olds worshipping God together; we value the multi-generational gathering of the body of Christ.

The circle is modern in design, while the square is reflective of a more traditional image. The circle contains that square because we hold our traditions within the current movement of God amongst us. The stained glass aspect is representative of our tradition and heritage.

Each quadrant or part of the circle and square represents people in mutuality with one another. All of the quadrants direct their attention inwards toward the center; all of the openings portray that there are many inroads to joining the community. This all reinforces that we gather to seek First the Kingdom of God as we continue to follow Jesus together.

The colors were chosen from the stained glass imagery in our sanctuary which each tells their own unique part of God’s story. At the same time, each color has specific meaning to our current time and location.

Red is the primary color of our community. We are a church for our community.

Grey is the secondary color of our community. Again, we can't say it enough; we are for Bellevue.

Blue is the color of our youth group. We value students and the next generation.

Orange is the color of our kids ministries. We value multigenerational interaction.
